Great analogy, Justi. Thanks for sharing!
Why is it that 50% or more of the population doesn't understand this????

Re: THATS RIGHT THE WEALTHY SHOULD NOT PAY ANYTHING FOR ANYBODY
Xeno-X, get over yourself, and the social mantra that we've been hearing since the 1930's. The answer, as we've seen over and over again, is NOT bigger government, higher taxes and more policy.

Great Post
You certainly make it easy to understand how you build wealth from the bottom up.lol Question? Why is it that all the people who want equality and fairness are so intolerable and not forgiving of anyone who doesn't share their views and refuse to even discuss a middle ground? In fact they will go so far as to Kill for Peace and find it justifiable to harm and cause mayhem in our own country to anyone who may signify what they dislike. They cannot, however, see why we should try and protect our family and country from the terriost in this world who want us dead or completely under their control. Do they think that they will be excempt from the danger the terriost hold for us because they are accepting of the terriost ideas? Isn't it strange that these very people who want to share the wealth; give the least to charities? They also want us all to believe money is evil and sinful to seek except if they are moving up in life.

THATS RIGHT THE WEALTHY SHOULD NOT PAY ANYTHING FOR ANYBODY
They shouldn't give workers fair wages.
or benefits like health care and vacation and sick leave.
let's see -- you know, we had such a paradise once -- around 1900, when employers worked people 12 hrs a day for 25c and people ages 12 - 90+ worked (or until death) in sweatshops where conditions were atrocious and people couldn't take a bathroom break and doors and windows were locked and barred to keep people in and fires claimed a lot of lives because people couldn't get out. etc.
and then workers started getting fairness and 40 hr weeks and overtime and retirement and health care and safe and clean working areas and social security and workers compensation and a living wage and sick leave and vacation.
But you know what -- the scenario is much like what you paint - the employers didn't like paying so much to American workers so they took their factories overseas where employers work people 12 hrs a day for 25c and people ages 12 - 90+ work (or until death) in sweatshops where conditions are atrocious and people can't take a bathroom break and doors and windows are locked and barred to keep people in and fires claim a lot of lives because people can't get out. etc.
And American workers have look for fry cook and other service jobs at way less money and fewer benefits -- just like the scenario.
I guess you are one of the wealthy ones the way you talk?

Re: Re: Fine Young Singer
Justi, when I say "you should have" this means you elect people to do it, thereby taking it out of your hands.

Albeit this is backwards economics in that the calculation is based on the “savings” and the distribution of a tax cut, the 10th guy is still paying the most taxes. The sad truth is that men #1 – 5 are probably out of a job and have no income against which to do a tax calculation. Great post!

Re: Fine Young Singer
It is still in the hands of the farmer not the government. The government has no right to manage what little money I have. Obama will destroy the freedom of this country in one scoop.

Re: Nautikos
That is so true. Freedom of opportunity is the essence of freedom. If I wanted to feed 20 more I would have had more children. Equality of Outcome is an insult to freedom seeking people. Thank you for your comment.

That's pretty much it.
Does everyone REALLY think that the wealthiest 2% of Americans will just say, "Oh Gee, you got me. Here's yer money back. I'll do my part!" When they're not the problem???
Here's another illustration:
You have a tomato patch with plants purchased from a nursery, and it does particularly well this year. You have canned enough tomatoes to see you through the winter, and you have an excessive amount of fresh tomatoes left that you can't possibly eat. What should be done with them?
A, you should be encouraged to harvest the seeds from some of them, start new plants yourself to either replace or add to the plants you'll purchase from the nursery next year (saving you money), and then give the tomatoes to someone with an offer to help you with the crop next year for the excess tomatoes.
B, you should have a third party take the rest of your tomatoes and give them to someone else.

I
do understand it! This cautionary tale is a perfect analogy for an approach to taxation that may be
embraced by Obama, but of course wasn't
invented by him. It was invented by those who have replaced the doctrine of 'Equality of Opportunity' by that of 'Equality of Outcome'...

Justi, Until I got to the bottom, I kept wondering how you figured all of that out. I was thinking you were a much better statician than I.
