Naut,

This summer when I was on vacation with my family in west Texas, we saw stars like I haven't seen in years. There was no light pollution there.. none.  I had almost forgotten how perfectly beautiful the Milky Way is. ..sigh.. ~OTA

I've been able to find the moon, sometimes the big dipper, but
there's too much light in this neighborhood to get the full effect. Maybe when I lived in the Cascade foothills the higher elevation helped, but the milky way in those days looked like a bright scarf of light. Maybe there was less pollution, or fewer lights in cities...  I hope they get a lot of input on this.

I look for Cygnus flying across the Milky Way in the summer sky--
I'm thinking we'll have to be staying up late to spot the Swan this time of year.

One of the first comments we get here when visitor arrive at night is that they have never seen (or haven't seen so many for a very long time) so many stars in the sky before. So, yes I'm going to have a look!

Naut
It’s most certainly an interesting idea but I wonder how many people will actually participate.  What am I thinking… it’s the internet and the site will probably get a gazillion hits.
