----

If one cannot insult the opposition, what fun is communicating with those who erroniously hold an opinion that is different than mine? If I cannot sway their opinion with my resonable arguments, the only reason to continue the discourse is the opportunity to stick my thumb in their eye, with an inspired insult. Those with differing opinions from my own, are likely not listening to what I am saying anyway, (as you pointed out.) An insulting jibe, aside from being palliative to my own ruffled feathers, gets the moron's undivided attention at least momentarily. This is when I can slip a tiny morsel of wisdom into their closed mind, because when one is shocked that I would stoop to insults, defenses are temporaily lowered. Just kidding, of course. You make your point well. I suspect that you and I could fix most of the things that are wrong with the world, over a few beers, in one afternoon. Don't discard all of your insults without saving a few, they could be the only satisfaction one can take away from an argument with an idiot.

Well written ...

... communication is an important issue, a core of necessity among all of us and, for reaching out with significant information - when we can mix our communication with tolerance and respect we're on a good path -  - genio

Unity isn't popular
We get an agenda of what we think should be, and come hell or high water.. we are going to do it... THIS Way. It is sad. If we would all stop and listen to each other.. really listen. We could do so much more than we ever dream of as individuals. Thank you for heads up on the book.

I agree
that tolerance is very important in persuasion and or reaching agreement or understanding.  It is not always easy to be tolerant, but that need not stop us from trying.  Even so, there are instances in my life were intolerance of my own views or actions by others have taught me what I would otherwise not have learnt, which was still a very useful form of communication, so tolerating intolerance is also important for a whole life in my opinion.

Indeed. Tolerance is my mantra, but who will listen? Thanks for pointing out an interesting book.
