One part of me says go get him, let him know that you know. 
After all he is a liar and running for office. On the other hand he must be a lier if he is running for office. Use your energy to find someone good for you.

Several different ways to look at this,
It sounds to me he is vain, and he cannot accept growing older, or it gives him a thrill to know that he is putting one over on you if you believed he is 58 instead of 68, either way he is not living in reality.
Now his statement that he will not have time to date was probably just his way of getting out of seeing you again, you meet and there is nothing that says the two of you have to hit it off, so instead of saying you are a very nice person, but i don't feel a real attraction, he lied. Another reason you would not want him.
Now if you do not really want to hook up with this guy, then why even let him know that you care if he is 58 or 68. If you are cutting him loose what is the point?
