Vogue

You're brave! I have swum in very cold water at the Atlantic coast, but I like my swimming pools warm! And Sinome has the right idea about having a slug of vodka before going for a swim, to protect you from the cold!

Apparently the First or Second Mate (I forget which) of the Titanic downed a good portion of a bottle of vodka before he jumped, and spent a long time in the water before being picked up! He probably made it because of the booze...

Schlenz baths (if I remember correctly) work with alternating hot and cold water treatments. You may be onto something there!

I would love to do that
but I can't get cold anymore without having pain.  you can get a heart dysrhythmia from hypothermia. I used to go to swim exercises in a warm water pool but I couldn't stay with it because of getting cold after the swim.

It is invigorating and I love to swim as well , but be careful my friend... Hypothermia does exist and is very dangerous... not worth it I think risking it for a challenge... since it could affect your heart and other organs not to mention make those cramps you were getting in the legs worse.  If you insist in going ahead with your freezing swims, hydrate yourself well before hand and try having a stiff drink or two of very high alcohol content Vodka before... It will warm you and give you extra energy.  ( Plus you will have a good time loll)  No, seriously it does help :-) Take care of you.

vogue, I love that too, as long as I can dive in.  I cannot stand to inch into cold water.  It is like torture.  But, diving in and immediately actively swimming is invigorating.
