Nautikos you are right they do take alot of water and yes they are flooded for alot of the season.  Tad poles grow into frogs there, and on summer evenings the frogs croak out their chorus!  There really are rice paddies in 'town' too, turn a corner, and find a rice paddy!

It's interesting to me that you have these rice paddies virtually in town. I was always under the impression that rice requires a lot of water - are these plots actually flooded for parts of the season?

KaBoom, that rice business looks like a lot of work.   I never think about all that when I cook rice.
