Re: History
If we take the books written by Moses to be true accounts of History, obviously slanted in his favor by the author, as is usually the case with historical writing, Moses may have had common sense and an agenda with the Israelites but they didn't seem to have common sense in general. The whole Bible is witness to the Israelites continuous disregard for law and common sense.

History
I have found it interesting that Conservatives in America insist that the Ten Commandments are the basis of American law, but in the context of the Bible, none of the moral principles given there is new. They were well-established in Genesis. Which sort of begs the question, why did Yahweh inscribe them for the Israelites then? As your post shows, they are mostly common sense ideas that we violate at our own peril.

AardigeAfrikaner, I may not agree with your "jots and tittles" but your post is interesting and well thought out.
