Because women are weaker physically,
it was necessary for man to evolve beyond the early primitive stages before women could ascend to full equality.  Similarly, we no longer sacrifice animals.  There is much that is different between today’s society and that of Biblical times.  A moral message can be drawn from historical accounts even if the social context is not fully the same.  The moral message would not be rendered invalid or altered, even if the sex of the characters and/or authors were different.

Re: The writers were everyday men, who were inspired by God.

They were allegorical figures... just like every other Hebrew/Greek/and Roman Myth. And just like in these myths... certain women were granted visitations from gods or their messengers... in Homer's The Odyssey it was Penelope... in the Hebrew myths there were several women - The Old Testament even has books named for them... but not the New Testament which was raped by the Roman Catholic church... edited down to  the myths/lies favorable to its cause... and hatred and oppression of women was just one of them.

Re: the canon was accepted by males so what do you expect?
The so called "Gospel of Mary Magdalene" is the only one I have heard of as well but it does not have doctrinal status.

I don't know if there are more than one outside the accepted canon written about women. The one I know of is The Gospel of Mary Magdalene -- something like that, where Mary is considered closer to Jesus than the others and possessing more knowledge from Jesus than the others -- but this is denounced in some circles as spurious.

Even in the male-dominated gospels, women's importance shows through -- they are the first to the tomb -- one is important in the early chapters of Acts -- and one is an important companion to the Apostle Paul.

But remember that men had all the rights then -- women were on the same level as slaves.
