Re: Dating Religiously
mousehop - I feel every new guy I meet out on the subject... isn't it unfortunate that I have to do this? But alas, I have learned the hard way. Religions creates more divisiveness than race or culture.

Re: Sam444
I remember the photo of your son... and he is a cutie pie... I admit I have dated them that young before... and the temptation is always great - but I do have a heart. I take your words as a great compliment.

You know I believe and so I am going to pray that the right man comes along for you! You are a great person and I think you deserve a great man. And I have doubted, but I no longer doubt. I am going to pray for the right person without strings attached for you would never be happy otherwise! I do this from my heart. Damn. I wish my son was a little older! I have said this before. I mean it! I respect your view for mine would not be real if I did not! Hang in there, he is out there. sam

Dating Religiously
Back when I dated (which I was not very good at), I was completely religious, but still had a reputation of being of questionable faith, because I asked questions.  That all drove me to another questioner, and between us, we mustered the courage to break away from our religious ties.  It lost us a lot of friends and strained relations with family, but we're right, so we stuck to it.  That whole betting on the afterlife thing only works if you accept that religion does no harm in this life.  I wouldn't want the burden of arguing that.

Good luck in your search.

Kingmi

It seems you are speaking in terms of the oversoul the Transcendentalists believe to be what unifies mankind and nature. Not dissimilar to the beliefs of Native Americans and the ancient African beliefs. I too believe we are connected... but not by any supernatural force. The Transcendentalist did not believe the oversoul to be anything of the supernatural sense... it was simply a connectivity. They tried to speak in terms that could be accepted by those with religious blinders... and soul is an accepted term by those who need to believe in an afterlife... and god in us is an accepted term for those who need to believe "we are not alone". Either that or little green men. Either way... it is down the rabbit hole as far as I am concerned.

Yep... I am not complaining about being single... I could very easily not be... if I did not like my life so much...

TC, no, not really. but you are still single?
Isn't it fun? I now enjoy my life, and really, I neverhave before. Before I married I was tentative, because I felt I had missed that rite of passage. But now, I know myself better. I enjoy my kids, my students. I even enjoy the idea of a family reunion.

Now, as for the notion of no God. I think there is a God, that he is in us, a part of her inside each one of us. What I do not believe in is religion. That's just politics.

So, enjoy!
