You might try just saying to them what you said here.
Point their attention at the problem. Not just theirs, but yours: put them in your shoes for a moment. Tell 'em your quandary over enjoying their energy but being frustrated as their teacher. If they really are smart, they will see the point and create their own solutions.
Of course, an alternative would be to put the two classes in competition with each other.

Re: Just remember, Teach -- you're creating the world. If you send out
My best students are an asset to the community, no question. The hardest ones to watch are the ones who want so badly to succeed, but struggle to make the grade. I almost want to just give it to them. I have to remind myself that I won't be around when they go to work. Three cheers for Mrs. Newton!

I'll probably only follow up on this story if it works.

Re:
It is sometimes hard to keep a straight face and not laugh, and I struggle against frustration, but I want these students to succeed, so I do my best to cope. Thanks for your kind words; I've always liked the concept of
noblesse oblige.

Re: If you keep up with so many quizes,
I'm sure there will be. But I've been called all sorts of names over the years, and I've kept most of my mind intact so far.

Teaching is a difficult job. I for one am a total misfit for this noble profession. Wonder how you manage to keep your cool

Just remember, Teach -- you're creating the world. If you send out
students who know their stuff, motivated to do well, the world will improve. I need not mention the alternatives. After 50+ years I still remember best the teacher who never let me get away with doing less than my best: Mrs. Newton. She was a taskmaster, a jewel, she inspired me to test my limits. End of sermon.

If you keep up with so many quizes,
there may be other names they will come up with.

hello
your students are very lucky/fortunate to have you. You have depth of heart and soul and I know it comes through in your mannerisms, character and eyes... Thanks for contributing to the future...
