Commercial Fisherman

There is one good thing about life on the sea, it gets in your blood and there is  nothing like salt air in your lungs. I am still concerned about being in a ship on the sea, and have not been on one myself since our loss.Harold had a manual eperb on board but everything happened so quickly that he could not get to it. And he was not in his Boston Whaler.  State of the art equipment is what everyone should have for safety reasons while on the water.  Although the April waters were so cold that Palm Sunday no one could have survived for long.  One survivor was picked up by a passing fisherman, he was the youngest on board at age 36. The USCG Southern Base searched for Harold and Lanny and for this our family recognizes and appreciates all they do in times of need and/or disaster.

We all realize that if there was something Harold enjoyed more than building custom  homes it was fishing.  It helped feed the family and also gave our children great enjoyment learning the skills not of just fishing but one of patience.  It is the best way for a father or mother to teach their children nature and respect.  Oyster season will be upon us soon and John has it already lined up.  We used to roast oysters in our backyard. John was the last to speak to his father and wanted to go with him fishing, Mom and I would not let him.  It was all so tragic that my mission is to promote water and boating safety skills and education and to remember "all those lost at sea."   Take care of  yourself, try not to worry  about your son I'm sure is like Harold and he  loves the sea.

My son is a commercial fisherman and this is my greatest worry when he goes out. I would be so lost if he never came back from the sea. sam
