Another suggestion on how we could fix things in Washington.

     Strat,

One of the best and least painful things that could be done, is go to zero-based funding for ALL government spending! Instead of just adding 10% to last year's appropriation request, make everyone justify every expendature, and do not allow ANY cost overruns! This would force people to stop purposely lowballing estimates, just to get some boondoggle project started, and it would stop people from attempting to pass pork barrel projects that only benefit a few, at the cost to all.

In one term, we would turn things around!

     Guy

I thought this was very good. I share in your thoughts. I know we have to bail out this mess but it still makes me angry that it might pass without any accountability whatsoever. sam

Sorry, old boy, but we have to do the bail-out thing. How it got to the point where we have to do it is another matter, and we can debate that later, at our leisure. First we need to get that cow out of the quicksand, and then worry about who left the gate open or that we might need to fix the fence. (I keep saying 'we' advisedly; while, strictly speaking, it's an American problem, not only are we Canadians affected by it, we have similar home-grown problems, if not of that magnitude. One of the advantages of being a little guy.)

As to all your other observations - AMEN...

Strat, et al...
Here's an idea, since we are going the socialist way, why not elect a socialist, they are on the ballot after all.  Hmmm, what if the major parties got wind of that idea?

I don't know what to say except that there doesn't seem to be any way out except to throw more money at it. Heck I do that with my credit card and now it's scary, governemnts have become as fiscally irresponsible as me

Hey, Bro!
Tell 'em!  Yeah!  Tell 'em!  You're mad as hell and you aren't gonna take it anymore......me either!  You should write on these issues more often because you're right.....I especially agree about the taxing capital gains....about the only thing more stupid, which I've never understood is how they can add all that pork onto a bill....why in the hell we, the voters, allow that?!  I wish some of these folks who spend all their time being mad at Bush, mad at Palin, mad at Obama and Biden even....and mad at the media....and, I'll be honest, I've ranted about some of these myself....but we need to put our energy into writing and ranting to those elected and making our position clear on what we are mad as hell about in terms of the actions being taken....and start holding these folks accountable at the polls by individual, not party.  Great post!
