I would say that Palin might be able to stop McCain's slide in the polls, but it may be too late for her to turn things around. After all, Independents were more impressed with Obama's substantive answers than McCain's mantra repititions in the first debate. But Palin, even a smart Palin, is so far right in her positions that she will not appeal to Liberals or Moderates. She energized the Right Wing base, but that's as far as she goes. Unless she bombs, and then McCain will go into free-fall in the polls.
