Where I said, "Jesus (Yeshua) wanted to emphasize that obeying the Law was necessary for salvation."
I meant to say NOT necessary.

One major problem I've had is
that, given the terms in which it was always couched to me, I now essenitally have the same questions of God as I do of Santa Claus.

Re: Xeno-x - Re: people want to be saved from themselves
"Salvation" arises from the guilt applied by the religious movements of actually any time and society (as we can plainly see around us) but it pertains in this instance to the Jewish strictures, where people were told they needed to perform certain rituals for salvation.
Jesus (Yeshua) wanted to emphasize that obeying the Law was necessary for salvation.
What I understand his saying is the "I'm OK, you're OK." pop psychology. People want to lay guilt of some sort on other people in order to feel superior to them. Only thing is: this guilt and the imagined offense are really nonexistent.
Salvation is understanding that there is no guilt. Salvation is. We don't need a religious system in order to know that.
Each of us is perfectly fine the way we are.

I think passing judgment on others is the fundamental problem. If we did not judge we would see real goodness in mankind. As always I enjoy reading your viewpoint! sam

Xeno-x - Re: people want to be saved from themselves
The being saved idea was always something I had trouble with. First off, just like the original sin idea, it was dreamt up by some salesman as a subscription ploy. A quick look at the world and the number of different beliefs today, should at least illustrate that the notion is inconsistent with all of humanity having access to being saved.
Who has access to being saved, really boils down to how much influence a society has historically had from the former British Empire or other European powers. If a person is born outside of a region either directly influenced by these countries or their missionaries, they do not have access to salvation.

people want to be saved from themselves
or from their enemies
The latter is Messiah.
The former is Savior.
People have trouble depending on their selves for salvation.
