We used to just soak them in a little soap and water, rinse, dry and
rehang. Yup, they are too delicate for washers.

No that is an idea...wear and throw.  In Texas we have to wash curtains and such at least every 2 months because the dust not only holds it together it becomes part of the fabric.

Thanks for all the good advice, but where I live here in Turkey there is not a single dry cleaner!!!
