"Seriously, how anyone could run for president without being able to find a way to use the most important basic tool that is out there shows a inability to adapt as far as I am concerned."  - EXACTLY, I agree.  The scary thing is, what if McCain were elected president with Palin as VP?- a woman who is completely clueless and was only chosen as his running mate because the republicans know they can't win on the issues.  So they chose her- someone with a "cute" face and not much between her ears.

kooka_lives - keep in mind as well that McCain himself has offered other

reasons for being computer illiterate.

Never once to my knowledge suggesting that his physical impairment was the issue. His supporters have offered that defence as a sort of pity plea, with some taking it even further. I've seen it construed into a "hand's off, how dare you pick on the handicapped" type of bullshit. As far as I can tell, how you are describing his attitude towards a modern technology seems more likely.

What does McCain understand?  He admits to being clueless about economics and social issues.  SO seriously, what is it that he understands?

As for the computer issues, Clinton was in office at the beginning of the internet revolution.  But the thing is he did use it and he was leaning how to use it as it became more and more needed. And now, nearly a decade later, the computer is a much more important tool than it was back then.  Any one wanting to be president better be willing to be the effort into making sure they have the most basic level of understanding about computer and can do the simplest of things such as e-mail.

As I said, there are people who have NO ARMS who can use the computer.  So that alone is as piss poor of an excuse as it gets.  If that was all that was really holding McCain back, there are so many devices out there that he could use that would not put any strain on his arms, and he has the money to afford to get the best of them.  A hundred years of so ago when the telephone became an important tool, I can promise you how ever was president better had made sure he knew how to use one.  A president CANNOT sit back and fall behind the times, be unwilling to push his/her self to learn ways to work with the new technologies that are an important part of modern society.

Basically right now you are defending McCain's attitude of falling behind the times and not working to keep caught up with society.  Those are NOT qualities I would like in the Commander in chief. McCain is saying his discomfort should be able to allow him to not work hard and not adjust to changes.

This makes McCain look weak, out dated, lazy and ignorant.  A good leader would go and find a way to at least be able to do the basics is order to make sure there in no doubt that he can keep up with the rest of the world.

As I mentioned in response to your comment on my blog, Kooka,

it's my understanding that your friend Bill Clinton hardly used the internet or sent emails during his administration, yet you folk loved him and it didn't seem to be a problem then!!!

Regarding McCain not using email, judging from the limited movement he has, I would venture to guess that he has fatigue and pain when lifting his arms to the typing position (unless he's doing as I am at the moment, sitting in a big overstuffed chair with my laptop on my lap).  His damage appears to be in his rotator cuff/anterior shoulder region which is going to cause potential for significant discomfort with upward motion of arms.

Frankly, what matters most is an understanding of the fundamentals of government which I think McCain certainly has over Obama.

I thought the same thing the first time I read that quote.

kooka_lives - It may be a stupid question but why would someone need to
raise their arms over their head to use a computer?
