That's the thing about it. Why should we pander to the most ridiculous of religious mythologies when it is so decidedly unhealthy for the rest of society on so many levels? Especially when it is considered how many times these games of pin the tail on the Anti-Christ, or let's put a date on the day when we all become charcoal briquettes, have been embarrassingly wrong. Like when do they learn?

I remember some forcasted disaster that
was supposed to end the world or some crap like that and several kids in class were so scared they were crying and goodness knows what other ways they were tormented by this vicious malarkey
My entire life I've been haunted by this end of the world state of mind that seems so prevalent. What is it? Does everyone have a death wish or what?

Re: everybody wants someone to save them from themselves
Xeno-x - there is a compelling reason to "stop now" . . . when the being saved concept was first developed mankind had a dicidedly different view of life in general, did not have the knowledge we have today and did not have centuries of the concept itself proving fruitless. Especially in the context of selective salvation of large favored groups via supernatural intervention during the end times. In suggesting that the idea is 12 millenia old is in part one of the reasons why I object to such nonsense. It is in league with dancing around a campfire to appease the gods in its primitiveness.

everybody wants someone to save them fro themselves
that's where Messiah comes in.
a great leader with powers far beyond those of mortal men.
it's been a staple of mythology for at least 12 millennia so why stop now.
only this time it's a magical figure that will save the "faithful", meaning the individual and his/her friends.

Kabu - same here - the only things I allow myself to think about are that
which one person can do or change.

I don't think about it. I've lived with the threat of nuclear war all my
life and apart from the decided tic, I pretty much just live one day at a time.
