Vogue
I don't play those PC word games! I don't have one now, but if I should have one again, it'll be a secretary, and not an assistant! And I still call 'flight attendants' stewards and stewardesses.
Not too long ago a woman berated me because I called a female Thespian an actress. It went something like this:
Why do you call her an actress?
Huh?
Why do you call X an actress?
'Cause she's an actress, isn't she?
Why can't you call her an actor? Why make the distinction, just because she's a woman?
Why would I call her an actor? For one thing she's got nicer legs than I have ever seen on an actor...
She turned away in disgust, probably thinking 'male chauvinist pig' or something to that effect, lol.
Incidentally, at the Toronto Star, otherwise known as the Red Star, the word 'actress' has been banned (together with a host of others) as a matter of policy...

You raise a good point with "Secretary of State"... perhaps it is a honourable title and we don't have to PC it.
