Re: taxes
Stonedead, I too am a liberal. My feelings about this bailout, is that they are just trying to barely hold things together until a Democrat gets elected, and then they will let the sh*t REALLY hit the fan.

My desire was, like yours, just let the whole system fail, clean up the aftermath, and start from scratch.

When bush told us to just "go shopping" as we started to wage war on Iraq, you knew the whole system was morally corrupt.

taxes
As someone in my late 20s who is going to be paying for the occupation of Iraq for the rest of my life, I don't know what to think about these new expensive bailouts.  I appreciate the socialist desire to help people stay in their homes (yes, I am a bleeding heart liberal) and I can even appreciate the need to stabilize financial markets.  On the other hand, why should we all pay for executive mismanagement and for other people who took loans they couldn't afford to pay back?  I've been personally responsible enough not to buy a house when I'm not quite ready to commit to paying for one--in return for my personal frugality, the government will use my tax dollars to fix enormous problems that were completely avoidable in the first place?

Does anyone know exactly how much this is going to cost taxpayers?  If a person earns $30K, $50K, or $100K, how much does he or she pay per year to bail out these Wall Street giants, and when does it end?  Moreover, what would happen if the government didn't bail them out?

Re: Soul builder
The Republicons love Socialism, but only for the rich, they figure the rest of us will muddle through on our own , so they sell us Capitalism - unadorned...

It continues eh Cynthia...

Very excellent observations! They obviously think that we are stupid. All the manufacturers of BIG autos have gone to the White House for help. Guess what...they got it...at taxpayers expense!
