KaBoom, how cool you know the Pike Grill already!

Bamboo serves mainly Thai and Vietnamese food.  I like their eggplant hot-pot, and a tasty little appetizer called Angel Wings that is chicken wings stuffed with little transparent bean-thread noodles and vegies, and baked golden and crispy!

They make pretty good spring rolls, too--the rice noodles, basil and pork  or shrimp (or both) in a soft rice wrapper, served with peanut sauce.  Had one last time made with a deep-fried prawn that was especially yummy!

The soup has bamboo shoot, carrot, egg, pork, green onion, sometimes water chestnut, sometimes black mushrooms in a chicken broth.  Not sure what the 'hot' is, but if it is too hot for me, I add some lime.  I also usually add a bit of plum sauce, to add a bit of sweetness.  Most hot'n'sour soups I've had elsewhere are basically the broth with a bit of egg and lots of black mushroom.  Tasty, but doesn't compare with the good stuff!

Naut, I haven't been in Toronto in years...

Sounds like time for a culinary tour!  What kind of food do they serve at these places?

I remeber a small restaurant out east of Toronto's downtown, I forget the exact place, but they had a deli case full of the most incredible salads and entrees, and you paid a flat rate for 2 or 3 or 4 choices.

There was another where I had what they called Urban Shepherd's Pie: it was very, very thin slices of white tater on the bottom, the delicious meat mixture between, and mashed yam baked on top.

And I remember some sushi that was delectible--that was where I added a bit more wasabi, not realizing how much was already in the piece, and nearly blew off the back of my head!

I feel lucky to
have read this post, with Nautikos's comment too! What's in that soup?  Anything like Tom yam kun, the Thai (delicious!!) hot spicey soup?  What kind of food is served at Bamboo?  I'm sure I ate at the Pike Grill!  My parents took me, you see they live in Colorado Springs, and I go there everytime I am in the States!  I think I remember I liked it!

Ciel

Ciel, I shall certainly give that place a try, whenever I'm in Olympia, Washington, though it won't be this week or next, lol.

We have a couple of places here, Mondo and Chatterpaul's, that can hold their own with many Toronto spots down the road! And in Toronto itself? Did you know that many experts think Toronto has a range of cuisine from all over the world even richer than NYC? Not only that, while it can be pricey, it's still cheaper...
