I could grow a beard at 14, but stopped growing taller that year, too.  My brothers all said the two were related, and I believed it without checking.  They all tower over me at 5' 8".  I didn't grow a beard, though, until my mid 20's.  Beards were rebellious, and I wasn't brave enough for one until then.  I still haven't figured out what makes a man a man.  According to the women in my life (my wife and daughter), I'm still pretty much an adolescent.  And an old fuddy-duddy.  And that's not a contradiction, they tell me.  So I've got a lot to learn.
Loved the cat story, too.

So that's the measure of a man...

a brushpile of chinwhiskers. And here I'd been thinking it was having a keen analytical mind and the ability to sidestep trouble.  Maybe a sense of humor.  Silly me. :)
