Pack leader
Dogs are pack animals. He thought of you as pack leader, when you became sick he felt that he lost that. He is insecure. He is not an alph dog. As a vet tech I can tell you a lot of pit bulls are marshmellows.

my dog raises cain at the lightnig and thunder also or use to you can break him with a leash every time it thunder just correct him with the leash he will get the ticket soon enough
