Dido, I have three different friends who lived in Alaska for years and years, and raised their children there before moving back to Kansas City area.  None of them hunted either for food or for fun.  They had regular jobs and bought their food at the store like I do.  This is sad.

My first reaction to this post...
...was to ask if more guns and shooting is what soldiers returning from a war zone need, but, on second thought, shooting at animals instead of people might actually help them reintegrate into society, maybe even minimize the incidence of Post Traumatic Stress Syndrome...notice I didn't use the term disorder...even though the thought of hunting for sport offends me to no end.
I can't imagine that Alaska's current Governor could ever get elected outside of that State, beause animal rights activists would have a field day with her, and rightfully so.
Good post!

Corbin ... did you know that an elk rack goes
for up to $50,000??  I can see having to kill for food, but holding up the head and smiling for the camera because it is a trophy is quite a different, forgive the pun, animal.  Not one of these pictures are of hunters killing for sustenance.  Please.

Have you been to Alaska.......
Met any of the people there???  You really should consider the cost of living there.......

They hunt and fish as a means of sustenance.  Considering the prices of everything  can of soup $2. milk $8 a gal., 1 green pepper $2.39.....it's a means to offset expenses.   The state  has a moose road kill list that people sign up in a lottery for......several hundred are killed by vehicles each year especially in the winter......the moose freezes immediately.....the state police call in and the next person in an area on the list get the 1500 pounds or so of meat.
