hmm
My high school philosophy class watched "Crimes and Misdemeanors" and I enjoyed the movie.  It was interesting to me that a man could be involved in a murder and yet seemingly go on with his life with no nagging guilt.

I disagree that, if there is no God, all that matters is not getting caught by the police.  There are many reasons to behave well:  chiefly, those human relationships we care so much about, and the larger society.  Everything we do has a permanent effect on others, whether we are caught in the act, given credit, or invisible.  Our good deeds matter even if we don't feel proud, and our bad deeds matter even if we don't feel guilty!

I touched on this subject on my blog last night.
