mysteria - I have to agree that fear of the unknown is a primary motivation

in why people have an unwavering desire for their to be a God.

And once this motivation is in place, they are capably of convincing themselves of anything.

I think the fact that people do create, adhere and subscribe to fantasia is very demonstrative of just exactly how scared to death people are of the unknown

Many people find that this is all there is, very hard to swallow

Sunnybeach7 - Re: Selfish for sure...

In the past when discussing this subject, I had one person take exception to my suggesting that the human species would be better off if those who believe in something as ludicrous as the rapture were in fact taken off of this planet. My comeback to that is still the same; what is the difference between my suggesting people that are able to believe such a ridiculous story aren't very bright and someone glibbly telling me I'm out of luck and will suffer eternally for not believing as they do? I think the level of intended indignation is about the same. They are stupid, I'm going to burn in hell but I can mend my ways, there is no cure for stupid.

The whole salvation deal is so full of holes and inconsistencies that I wonder how people with modern era educations can believe such a thing. Then if the club is as exclusive as they say it is, inevitably they will be separated from most of the people they care about for all of eternity. . . . some heaven.

Selfish for sure...
I remember one of my "talks" with someone, way back when... If I was one of say 100 people on a bus (which isn't even a realistic number in comparison), and God was only going to accept ONE person from that bus...what would make me that special?

What would make me better than those other 99? And even if I was, how would I be ok with that?
Maybe I should believe in Santa too (to play it safe...you know if I don't, I just might not get anything for Christmas).

And since I'm not more special than one millionth of the population...might as well live a little.
Oh well... at least I'll have a lot of good company in hell.  Come talk to me when you get there... I'll be sitting around the fire making Smores.
