Re: Re: Oddities
Actually, it is not necessary to support either hydroelectric or nuclear power to achieve independence from foreign oil, but that is beside the point.  As for Obama's comments about China's infrastructure, I expect he was commenting on the fact that they have increased investment in theirs while much of ours languishes while we spend on other, less important things, like unnecessary wars.  It feels like you're deliberately over-interpreting his words.  Maybe you should check with him if you need clarification.  That would not only be more civil, it would be more honest.

Re: Oddities

There's a right way and two extremes of wrong ways to development. Those extremes are, on the one hand, the Chinese approach of simply bulldozing everything in sight, and on the other the tying up of needed development with litigation, fraudulent science (i. e., the creation of subspecies of plants and animals so that one can be said to live only in the path of needed development).

Concerning "global warming": If co2 emissions are really causing climate change, then all those who believe so are then bound by logic to advocate major development of non-carbon power generation, including hydroelectric and nuclear. The GORE's ideals on this are laudable, but he needs to expand his no-carbon vision to include these if it is going to work.

Concerning Obama - read his remarks again. He just held up the Chinese infrastructure, which involved massive destruction of the environment, as desireable! Why then would he laud it as being "vastly superior" to ours?

Concerning defense contractors: Many past and present defense contractors, such as Brown & Root, Kiewit, Bechtel, Morrison-Knudsen and others, are also or have been leading infrastructure contractors.

Concerning oil companies: I understand that Senator Barack Hussein Obama has said he wants oil usage to end in our lifetimes. But he apparently doesn't understand the vast number of uses of oil. (See http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Petroleum_product and http://www.eia.doe.gov/neic/infosheets/petroleumproducts.html for discussion.)

Oddities
It seems odd to see you arguing against development that disregards the environment.  Aren't you trying to prove that Global Warming is a Hoax?

But of course Obama doesn't support development that destroys the environment.  Such development isn't necessary or desirable.  It can be done without so much damage.  Maybe what Obama wants is a shift in priorities, away from defense contractors and oil companies, and toward sustainable development.
