- Go to Creationist nonsense is hurting society
Re: its' creationism that has caused our ills, not evolution
Xeno-x - as a byproduct of belief I can agree with that. Creationism in its present form has been bypassed by the collective knowledge of our species. To promote it today is not the same as the ignorance and shortcomings of mankind demonstrated in past centuries. It is a new brand of ignorance, one that is forced to adhere to the impossible task of reconciling modern knowledge with a non-compliant ancient chronicle.
Did you notice the rebuttle post to this one? I laughed out loud when I read it. For the most part it demonstrated a number of things I described in this post to be found in their behavior.

its' creationism that has caused our ills, not evolution
to recognize our evolutionary roots is to take a great leap forward in understanding human nature and the problems we face.
we look at 2 millennia of Christian creationism and we see nothing but evil. Wars, racism, slavery, all in the name of Christ. or pretty close to it.
Christianity never stopped the wars of Europe, ending in the Second World War. Christianity added to the woes of the Jews and gave Hitler plenty of reason for his actions.
Evolution tells us that much of our behavior stems from our animal ancestry, and should help us to understand it better.
It is the adamant opposition to acceptance of Evolution, which is a pretty well demonstrated process, that keeps us from recognizing and solving personal and societal problems.
