Nautikos, I read this post again.  I notice that the first comment that I made back to you was all about the excitement of watching the contenders.  This time I read the post, I focused more on what you said about China and you are right on.  It's like they were hiding themselves from the visitors.

I missed most of it but what I did see seemed beautiful beyond words. and Yes I imagine that China wanted to present a certain look to the world.. Do not most governments hide there dirty secrets from the masses?  I think it is possible that they do.  So very nice to see you.

My two cents from Oregon
Hi, Naut - I'll be home in Sept and ready to comment more at length.  But I was watching the Opening Ceremony with friends, and one said, in response to a drummer who was a split second off "he'll be shot for missing that mark!  And what difference does it make - there are billions more to take his place."  The whole shebang was awesome in a fearsome way!  Mal

Nautikos, What an interesting post.  I am late reading it because I can't stay away from the TV and the Olympic events and reviews whenever I am at home.  That Bolt guy is so fun to watch when he runs.  Fascinating.  And Phelps is really an android--did you know?  Did you see that one biking event where all the bikes and bikers piled up one on top of the other and one of them suffered, among other injuries, a separated shoulder.  I thought of you when I saw the first biker go down.

I felt the Olympics felt a bit sterile myself! Shelly
