Nautikos...well the painting wasn't in an art gallery it was in a "beer hall", that included rooms upstairs where Mae and other ladies would entertain their gentlemen friends....Thus the line "Why don't you come up and see me sometime?"

Mae West was very risqué and although she did any number of things which shocked people, I think everyone found her earthiness and rawness both refreshing and alluring. I have no idea what the move might be....

Well...
Its not sharply in focus and the hat is strategically placed, so that's probably it. Besides, even in 1934 they knew beauty when they saw it.
