Re: Great...

Re: Beginnings
Good to have some opposition to a stated view.

Concerning biological evolution:

As natural selection is part of the whole evolution process the extinction of species that cannot meet the challenges of an environment that becomes increasingly hostile opens avenues of survival and adaptation to the new ecology (without the extinct species) for those that survive and new strategies (ways of navigating the environment) become either necessary or at least available.  I agree that even though this forces change on the existing species it does not always lead to improvement in all areas, but evolution does not only mean improvement in any given category, it can also mean better adaptation to a changing environment.  Thousands of species have become extinct long before any human intervention and is just part of the way things happen.  I'm not condoning human actions that have caused the massive scale of recent extinctions but we have to accept the fact that we are not separate from our environment and as such equally part of nature as is any other natural phenomena.

What I tried to get at here is that were a persons views are not challenged, there is little reason for revision and change.  The more a view is challenged the more there is reason to revise it, improve it, discard it or change it in whatever way is more suitable for sensible and meaningful engagement of the real world.  There are obviously those who just wont budge and they will eventually get left behind.

Thanks for a thoughtful comment

Beginnings
I can't accept your initial proposition.  Deliberate opposition to evolution is a uniquely human thing, as far as I can tell, and it has stopped the evolution of thousands of species.  Extinction is rather permanent.  As for spiritual evolution, well, I can't say I've ever seen anything that would meet such a term.  On the other hand, I will admit I have seen lots of opposition to it, whatever it may be.

Great...
I very much like this slant (for want of a better word) on our spiritual growth story.

Re: Purple
Unfortunately, if we leave the politics to the politicians we will never progress beyond the status quo.  Thanks for reading and commenting.
