Yes, sadly this is always the case. People are so embarrassed by grief that they want everything back to normal as quickly as possible. But it doesn't work like that for the grieving person.

Grieving is hard even when you're not alone.
A month or two from now, maybe a little longer, everyone else will have gotten on with their lives, and if John did not occupy a large space in their hearts, then it won't take long for the empty space to fill in. People who are not close to her will forget that Amy will not be ready to 'get on with life' for quite some time.
