I don't mean to be argumentative--
I very much respect that you are posing these questions in these two posts with a sincere sorrow and wondering, and I feel it's fair to respond in kind.
Rather than hijack your blog, I will post my response in my Loosely Speaking blog.
I will say here, though, that you have opened my eyes to this, and hereafter, I will be recognizing the dates of the bombing of Hiroshima and Nagasaki.
