I sense a bit of tongue in cheekness, Talion--
I have mixed feelings about musicals, myself. But there are some with delightful word-play and great cleverness of lyric--"Master of the House" comes to mind, from
Les Miserables. And some that are deeply moving in or out of context, without being cloyingly sentimental, which is what I find most objectionable in some of the most wildly popular shows. I am thinking of "Memories" from CATS, which also has a lot of just very clever stuff, being for the most part taken straight from TS Elliot.

If they're singing in Italian, it's an opera. If they're singing in English, it's a musical. Not quite the same. I detest musicals and since I don't understand Italian, needless to say, I'm not what you would call an opera kind of guy.
