Yup. the legend of Eros and Psyche inspired that part. the whole story is my ode to old myths, in the same way Kat's story was my tribute to nursey rhymes and classic tales like Little Red Riding Hood. I'm glad you noticed, Ciel!

Moving right along...

I'm reminded of the myth of Eros and Psyche, in that she was forbidden to look on his face.  And that, of course, led to all the trouble! 

I also  get the echo of Beauty and The Beast throughout. 

The great thing with classic and mythic elements is that they lull the reader to expect similar outcomes.  And then suddenly, there is a twist and they go somewhere entirely unexpected!
