Yip, I'm slowly turning from a "mielie" to a kiwi, hopefully not permanently, but my kids safety and education takes priority and for now that seems better here in NZ.

To aardige afrikaner,

Hi, Thank you for your positive comments regarding my short story - in fact it is not fiction but based on true facts and experiences in my childhood years on my grandparents farm near Bloemfontein.

You sound as if you are no longer in South Africa??

Regards,

Karin Lorenc

Moving.  I haven't seen the word "koppie" in a while.  Welcome to blogit.  This "vertelling" leaves me numb somehow.  It stirs up a lot of memories.  My Oumas and Oupas stayed on farms in the Free State and Northern Cape for most of their lives and although they were old, and one dead, by the time I came along, and living on self sufficient little "plotte", the "veld" is still in my minds eye too.  An inexplicable well of tears overcomes me now.  There is a lot of memories from my childhood that hasn't been triggered for long.  I look forward to reading you here again.
