Re: Re:

There are many kinds of friendships. I think the easiest ones are probably with the ones who are like you, same sex, same age, same lifestyle etc. but it is the ones that differs that can sometimes be the most giving.

You use your friends for different things. Some are your confidant, some are your buddy, some are your party friend etc. and then there is that one special friend - or soulmate if you will.

Some ppl are lucky to find that in a person they are also in love with and that must be the greatest love of all.

I am happy to have had that friendship, but she passed away way too early.

It is very rare to find that in a person, but sometimes it just hit you and it may not be convenient as he/she does not fit in to your life, and if it is of the other sex then it can be trouble.

Just like "when Harry met Sally" there will probably always come a time where sexual tension will play a trick on you.

Too bad, as I find friendship in the other sex really rewarding in so many ways.

Re:

Thanks to you all for your comments.  The question is why can I not be his lover??

Hmmm...well, because... sometimes you grow up with someone in the same enviromnent and eventhough research has shown that those kinds of friendships  develop into good relationships, it is just that there is this uncunning feeling.  You just don't know how to move from the "brotherly love" kind of friendship to lovers.  It is just feels weird.

Then you also don't feel you were meant to be together and fear that if it does not work out then you would have lost a best friend.  But since he is now in love with you it even makes it even more complex because then you are at the verge of losing a friend too.  That is if he decides he cannot hang around you anymore.  If he does you also have this guilt hanging around your neck because it is like you are hurting your best friend.  This was a real life drama that happened in my life during my college years, before I met my hubby and married him.  It was something that played out for a while but was never able to express how I felt.  I finally found the right words to express how I felt then.

So that is my story.  I hope it now much clearer.  Sophie.

That result haunts all of us. Can you answer why you could not be his lover?

Wow! This is a great poem. So many levels of thought. The ending with pondering the outcome was brilliant! sam

Awesome job on a difficult moment...
But it seems to be a common experience.  Very well written.  - Chris
