Re: Religion
This reminds me of a saying: God made man. Man made religion.  Blessings.

You address a subject many shy away from. I agree for the most part.

My faith is how I choose to worship the Lord. It works for me! I live my live according to the teachings of Christ! Religion is not effective for me if it pushes a belief as the only way! sam

I doubt that
"religion has done more harm than good".

In fact, religion is, as far as I understand, one of three main ideas that hold the society together.

Because why do people choose to be "good" instead of "evil" (those who do, of course ;))?

1) because they have to follow the laws (written or unwritten) - now laws are basically keeping people from being evil or ruining the structure of society, but there is no law that states that people should be "good"

2) because they have decided to be good - this is quite rare, I think, and, to be truthful, I think the decision to be "good" will go off the window first when the poverty or some other emergency strikes. I'm living like this lately - trying to be nice to people, trying to do the right thing - but this is because I can afford it both financially and emotionally

3) because they follow the ethics of a religion - and laws that are embedded in religion are perceived as more important than laws of society, as the society can only punish me as much as it can - life sentence being the harshest way - but "God" can punish me FOREVER (forgive me for putting it so bluntly).

All my childhood I lived in a country with no religion (save for some idolizing of Lenin). And no, it wasn't better than living in a country where religion is accepted and maybe even given too much authority for my liking.

As I argued with Nautikos once (he didn't agree with me thou), religion is just a tool. It is often misused, but it is just a tool. And I don't think that civilization as a whole is ready to advance without it.

some of the things
(imo) your saying are quite true yet when I see the word "All" used I can only smile since no two are ever exactly the same and most assuredly to description could be applied to "All" except for the need for air and water.  A very introspective post indeed.
