19th Century -- they are that up to date?
yeah I can see where the Jew/Catholic thing can be perplexing.
but a lot seems to be perplexing
one thing about catechism, etc., is that the authors talk from a position of absollute authority -- no matter how faulty their premise, it is absolutely right.
I tried to understand one time a treatise on proving that Jesus was born on Dec 25 -- using the birthof John the Baptist, etc. to demonstrate such.
It left my mind reeling and didn't really accomplish what the author set out to accomplish (if he were attempting to convert unbelievers; but if he were attempting to assuage believers, then it was successful I am sure, because believers believe no matter facts to the contrary).
You can't base belief on any person's "word for it", no matter the elevated status of the person.
