Most dichotomies are not opposites but scales of differentiation. There are so many gradations between hot and cold, or any opposite for that matter. Opposites may be the extreme ends of these scales rather than mutually exclusive categories. Older Yogis also taught this with a view to cultivating equanimity. On becoming some of the so-called opposites are automatically transcended. Praise and blame do not matter to soul because it is not focused on either. The dark side is!
