Re: CringeintheUSA
It's just not the same outside of Blogit, no interaction, I missed it.

Also, it seemed that though it was a group that left here, it was just individuals outside of here.

Such a viewpoint is necessary for one in the military, especially when in combat zones. Too much empathy could make doing one's duty extremely difficult, if not impossible.

I'm most certainly biased, but definitely give me the western way every day of the week and twice on Sunday.

I think that's exactly what's happening now. The question is, will be learn from it? I certainly hope so.

A friend of mine in Kuwait had this at the end of her email:
(re the military) "If you can't stand behind us, feel free to stand in front of us."

What you described is the essence of being a good citizen. I see I'm not the only one that came slinking back. It's odd how this place can have such a hold on us, isn't it?

It's odd that those who would like to stay are faced with so much red tape, but those who enter illegally often thrive. On top of that, if any wished to do harm, they wouldn't apply for citizenship in the first place.

The smart alecks have their place as well. Most of the greastest artists, regardless of their fields, were basically smart alecks.

I love a sunburnt country , a land of sweeping plains
of rugged mountain rangers of drought and .............how can one not love liberty/ Nowhere on earth is perfect, but give me somewhere like Australia Canada or the States anytime over some other places I can think of.(eight months out I am feeling just a wee bit homesick for the land down under I think)

I done nothing but benefit since I came to this country, so regardless
of it's perceived faults, it's delivered for me and my family.

It's made our lives better, and yes, though some of it was dependent on the better familial support here, I've also been made to feel a hell of a lot more valuable as an employee since I came here.

Inasmuch as there are definite things wrong, and issues that need correcting politically, I feel that because of my experiences here to date, that whatever I can contribute back will be in a positive spirit and with the aim of hoping to help others benefit in the way that we have, and making this country as great as it can be.

Having said all of that, I am looking forward to January.

Talion,
I agree with you. America is pretty screwed up but there are some good things, too. I am proud to be an American but I'm often embarrased by our president and company. It's no wonder why so many countries hate us. But, one thing I can say that I hate is when people live here but parade their patriotism for their "home country" and bitch about this one. I want to tell them if they hate it here so much and are so in love with their home country, um....you love it so much, GO HOME! Who's keeping you here? I don't get that.

I love America, but they won't lt me stay!! just too much red tape to cut through, so it's in and out for me as often as possible. See, I'm a patriot by proxy so to speak.

I remember that sticker from the 70s--

onmy boyfriend's car, he had one that said:  America--Fix it or Forget it!

He was more a smart-aleck than a philosopher or patriot, for that matter.
