I've had leg cramps a couple of times and it wasn't a lack of protein, but
rather a lack of potassium...fixed it right up with bananas! So glad you'll be okay!

Glad you got help Vogue. I think Nautikos is correct about water too
I had a brilliant doctor in Turkey too. On my first visit to Turkey i was ill before I arrived and saw the doctor the same morning. Little did I imagine that 9 years later, I would stilll be seeing that doctor. On one later visit I was pregnant. They had no fancy equipment, it was just the local clinic. And he and a second doctor and a nurse put this thing to my belly and listened to the baby's heart beat. These old fashioned skills are almost lost now in the days of ultrasound. The doctor wrote a letter clearing me to fly home. If he hadn't I'd have had a Turkish child ;-).

Sorry you're having trouble with cramps. Your doctor is of course right, you do need protein to 'build' muscle. But another reason for cramps is that you probably don't drink enough (and I'm speaking of
water here, lol). When you work out a lot, even when swimming, you need to drink more than just enough not to feel thirsty! The other reason for muscle cramps is lack of
potassium, which you excrete with your sweat as you work out
. You get a lot of potassium in bananas, but you can also get tablets...

I eat a lot of protein and still get these same cramps. I think its the acidity in the body. Research!

Gotta like friends like Maureen but even better is finding a good Dr when you’re so far away from home. Hope you're legs are feeling better....

I am so sorry to hear you were not feeling well. It did not show in your writing, which was as funny and interesting as ever. Thank G-d for your friend Maureen and for that wonderful Dr. Did she just happen to be a girl doctor or is it segregated there ...like women to women doctors and men to men doctors? I just wonder if it was custom or just coincidence. In any case, take care of yourself and stick to that diet... take care of you
