- Go to Woe is me - can I get you to agree?
Re: aren't you used to human behavior yet?
Xeno-x - If I remember correctly that line comes from one of the Austin Powers movies. Michael Caine playing Mike Myers' father said it (I think)

Talion - I looked at that word and knew it was wrong but do you think that
I could think of the homonym?
I find the same thing when I switch from some of the business oriented writing I do quite often to this blog, the words "profit" and "prophet" become interchangeable.
To some degree, I'm surprised it is not worse as well but I am also surprised at some of the re-occuring patterns of behavior. It seems that not only must we endure legions of mindless automotons spewing their cookie cutter beliefs, we are also upon occassion treated to one amongst them that envisions himself (I have yet to see a female do this) as the second coming of Christ. In the latter we can understand that all persons to some degree attempt to emulate those whom they admire. When I was growing up, I wanted to be Rocket Richard, so I understand someone wanting to be Jesus but like most people do, the maturation process and some minor failures along the way demonstrated to me that I was not Rocket Richard. When do some of these people realize that they are not Jesus? This is particularly surprising when we are dealing with men approaching middle age or in other words; an age when they should know better.

Pat_B - we are witnessing that phenomona today in my home city
A local preacher got caught stealing some of his church's cash, writing bad checks and diddling some youngsters. His congregation refuses to see him for what he is and continues to hold prayer meetings for him. They still consider him their leader even though he is in jail.

One of my favorite research papers in college, for a 101 Journalism class,
was about religious scammers, including the Bakers and others. Those who get their religious training from such people are not "walking in the light" of faith and knowledge. They are parrots, screeching noisy irritants. They're puppets of charletans and wolves who promised righteousness and future candyland, but instead took their cash and made sheep of them. Of course they'll defend their rep and their point of view to the death.

The only criteria needed for joining this site is a computer, internet connection, and the willingness to fork over the dues each month. That's it. With the freedom anonimity often provides added to the mix, I'm surprised these interactions aren't far worse.
Very few blogs deal with hard news or specific subject matters where expertise could be measured and or proven. The vast majority are a "look how wonderful I am" mix of personal opinions, personal philosophies, and personal experiences (my blog most certainly falls in this category). In essence, extentions of the authors, their core beliefs, the things that make them the individuals they are. When something so personal in natue is criticized by a third party, it's extrememly difficult for some not to misinterpret it as a personal attack. "You are wrong" is somehow viewed as "you are a lousy human being" and they respond accordingly. As I said before, I'm surprised it's not worse than it is.
By the way, you have the word wrong in the headline. "Whoa" is what you say to make a horse stop. You use "woe" for sadness. Not that I'm questioning your depth or level of education or anything.

vickip - Thank you - In any group of people we will run into a few like this but when they are attempting to impart to us some great spiritual insight or wisdom, it makes their behavior all the more surprising.

Dark_Moon - I find it rather remarkable how a common profile seems to be
present amongst those who would want to be our spiritual leaders.
A health care professional or someone working in the field of psychology could probably verify a common personality type. It seems to the untrained eye that these people have a number of glaring commonalities. They all seem to have egos that allow them to think it possible that their religious viewpoint is somehow special and a level of obtuseness that allows them to justify almost any transgression in the process of promoting that viewpoint.

hello gome ;) I could not have said this better... although I have
tried, excellent post.
"I cannot understand how someone of adult age does not realize this. How they expect to insult others with impunity and act as the wounded party after receiving back precisely what they have just served to someone else is beyond me. Then to take it a step further and attempt to garner pity from others for what they endured in a conflict they started, is still to this day something that surprises me from supposed adults."
