RSM, I don't play those games
Let's see, you go and not only not even try to say anything relevant to the subject matter at hand, but instead go and outright question my morals and values, and I am just suppose to stand back and believe you mean it as a polite question? What you are implying is very clear, very insulting and about as disrespectful as it gets.
I am so glad that I have yet to sink down to your level when it comes to commenting. No matter how innocent you act and how much you like to play the victim and pretend as if you do no wrong as you sit on your righteous pedestal looking down on all who do not share you beliefs, I have yet to ever try to treat you with such total and utter disrespect as you continue to treat me.

Out of the simple question that I asked below, I get this response? I even said that I knew you had morals pertaining to your past blogs where you stated you did. Then I get this kind of response? Earn your respect? Who would desire that after attacks like this from a simple question?

Appreciate the clarification, Kooka--
and he would surely be mightily offended by some of those you mention!

Jefferson was a Deist. He believed in God or some form of a creator, but he made it very clear in his writing that he had problems with organized religions of all manner and had his doubts about God. But he also clearly believed that people needed to be free to follow whatever religious ideas they felt drawn to and that no one person or group should have the right to enforce religious ideas in any manner at all on others. he also was very much aware of the need to keep church and state separate to help maintain a fair and reasonable government not influenced by religious ideas above the needs of the people.
Looking at his writing, I very much believe he would be considered very liberal is he were alive today. He would undoubtedly have a huge problem with the conservative fundamentalist movement we see in modern America.

Ever take a look at the Jefferson Bible?
He went through the King James with ink and blade, as much as possible excising that which, in his estimation, smacked of superstitious folderol. He was, I believe, an atheist, though, like you, one with strong moral and philosophical convictions--though like most of us, he failed notably to live up to his own ideals.
Very interesting to see Franklin's take on the topic! I had not heard that before.
I have heard that many of our Founding Fathers were dedicated to the priniciples of the Brotherhood of Masons, which is, again, more about a set of moral and ethical principles, than about religion.
Those who think that one cannot seperate morality and ethics from religion are making fundamentally false assumptions. Not that I have to tell you that...

This is you very obviously trying to insult me just because you cannot prove me wrong. This is what pisses me off the most and makes it very clear that I should show you no respect at all, since you obviously are not even going to try and earn it.
Yes, I have a very strong moral stance and you know it. I would even be willing to bet that I have a much stronger sense of morals than you do. Statistics and history have shown us that atheists are much more law abiding and moral than Christians, how do you explain that? Seriously, How am I suppose to take such an insulting and degrading comment seriously? How do you think I should reply to you obviously trying to do all you can to attack my character? You have no respect at all for me or my beliefs and you seem to only be able to reply to my facts and evidence with childish insults.
Go and read my posts in my religious Blog. In fact I just wrote one a few days ago titled 'JUST GIVE ME SOMETHING TO BELIEVE IN' that talks about where my values come.
You need to understand that I am not some sad little person who is so weak of mind and spirit that I need to fear an invisible (And very likely imaginary) egocentric jack-ass who I am told is a father figure, although he would be about the worst possible father figure in history if we were to believe even a tenth of the stuff that is written about this being.

Question
I know you have answered this in the past but could you tell me if you have moral stances and if so (I know you do) then why do you believe in those stances?

Re:
May I interrupt the atheist lovefest to interject a serious question:
What is an atheist bible? Seriously, is there such a thing?

Yes, these men were deists but......I have a feeling that had they been born post-Darwin/post-Einstein, they might have abandoned even those beliefs. But, no use having this conversation w/ believers, most of whom are in serious denial concerning matters of god/religion. (Funny sidebar: My family was at my house on the 4th and I do believe one of them "lifted" my "Atheist's Bible"......which contains quotes such as those you mention in your post.)
