Interesting thoughts.....
Gosh you sound really mad....this is ll new to me as we haven't really got into this too much in England. Everything you say makes perfect sense, what an interesting blog. Thanks for sharing this brilliant stuff. I look forward to reading much more in the future and to hopefully welcoming you to my own blog. Keep up the good work. Holly.x

We manufactured bath products in the 80s and 90s and in some stores one of our groups of products would fade in a week. It was terrible. I hope it does not harm your fathers art. I am like you. Do not mandate such to me.

I don't use them

because, frankly, the regular bulbs are cheaper.

But my parents have been using CFL's almost exclusively for a while now. They do use a lot less power, and they last quite a bit longer than normal bulbs. As to causing fading of drapes and paintings--I can't say for sure, but my dad has a fairly extensive art collection, and I don't think he's had any problems in that area.

That being said, I agree that making them mandatory is insane--consumers should have the choice to use whichever type they prefer. Just like we should have the choice to use whatever toilet we want, instead of being told that we have to install the new "dual flush" ones, that overflow if you look at them wrong.

I have them too, but by choice not by mandatory legislation. Thank you for all the information. I am glad you are writing more now.

CFL stands for a) Compact Fluorescent Lighting and b) Canadian Football League, the equivalent, sort of, of the NFL. Although our field is bigger, and we have only three downs, lol.

But back to a): Fluorescent lighting has been around forever and a day, in our offices and those all across the world. And we have survived. Yes, there's a bit of mercury in these things, although not all that much, and efforts are underway to reduce the amount even further.

In this country they're recommended, not required by law. I have a few myself, in the garage and in my basement, because it makes sense - they require less power! And that, of course, is the motive behind the planned US legislation.

And they do come from China, where they're manufactured by US companies who have established their manufacturing facilities there, rather than in the US, where wages are too high for them...

And no, I do not own shares of any of those companies...

I don't know why it is so difficult for the general public to see we are being screwed to the wall.

Well I thought it was the job of the fireman to put out fires. I guess not. I guess it is to find out how family is doing. That is so stupid I cannot comprehend it. I don't want your voice silenced on here.

Not to be concerned with what is happening in our country is akin to not being concerned with what one's children are doing. Are they in the street, oh well! All the Old Prophets from the Bible were talking to the people to change their ways and how the country was doing.

did you see where they fired the fire "chiefs" in the mid west because they could not talk spanish good enough or at all. A great man once said there is but room for one language in this country and there is but room for one flag. What ever happened to those days. What kind of people do we have running this country. where are there heads. PS I am fine thanks for your concern. I have just been callused for a few days. I let things get under my skin sometimes and I have a tendency to write with my head. Maybe that is not the right place to write from, so I take a brake from time to time. thanks for your concern and God bless.

Justi, I guess we could always choose to live in the dark after 2012.  Will we still be allowed to use candles?  Interesting post.
