WOW marion, I simply love these that you bring for us, the gaps between the spoken words are more important to be caught, because they speak a lot. That was poetic, wasn't it, my delta home?

I thank you all...
I am so surprised by the response from this post..I am glad to see that even with these old quotes they can still be in used in this "modern" world today..I too agree that there should be more silence to listen to others..Thank you all soo much..I promise to catch up reading all you wonderful people soon..It has been a crazy couple of days...Miss you all!

Very good observations. The silences involved 2 things....one for the speaker to evaluate the idea and the other for the listener to follow the idea. Silences accomodated this! Wonderful!

wigopa--both your poem and the Native American Thought-are Brilliant!
How wonderful-polite and respective-that 'space' is left in between the speaker and the listener-for some time for contemplation! I just Love this.Thank you.Chris.

It annoys the heck out of me when I’m having a conversation with someone and I can tell (you can just see it in their eyes) that they’re not truly listening but rather thinking of what they are about to say next. And that moment of silence between thoughts or spoken word, which is so critical to a meaningful exchange, is often uncomfortable for some people. It’s as though they have to fill it not realizing they’re missing the fullness of human exchange. If only we could listen, or even silence ourselves, as well as we can speak.

Wise words indeed my friend..........
I have always agreed with the idea that thought precedes speech which in turn precedes action........ thank you for sharing these words of wisdom and God bless

this is beautiful ... but I have to tell you ...
I found it necessary to cut the ears off my heart a while back, lol. For real ... they had selective hearing!

Wow! Your poem and Luther Standing Bear hit my heart, Because I need to listen in silence.
I need to practice this daily. This is one of my faults. I will pray for . . . . .

Unfortunately...
...most people merely take turns talking instead of listening to each other.
Great wisdom and lovely poem, wigopa.

That is a very wise quote, and your poem is a very wise poem. When I read your poem, everything around me started to irritate me and I had to turn everything off and re-read it in silence. It's as though the noise in my room was being rude and a nuisance to what you were offering us with your words. I feel like I'm in a deep and peaceful meditative state now that I've read your poem...and that's just a lovely feeling. Thank you so much.
