One thing I can say with some pride about Canadian society is that where we have our fair share of loonies, we don't encourage them.

ZenMom - I don't have any kind of answer and tend to stay away from acting
as an analyst of American society but . . .
Where my views do have some relevance are as objective comparitive observations. The USA is unique amongst developed nations in how religious beliefs have trended in the last few decades. When Barrack Obama said in one of his speeches, something to the effect of (paraph.) "more Americans believe in an almighty creator than they do in evolution" . . it is a statement that underlines the differences between the USA and all other modernized nations.

I still find myself confused as to just how we Americans got so screwed up when it comes to religion in general........and religion in government specifically.
