Maybe I got it wrong
but I coulda sworn that the gas is caused by bacteria in the gut fermenting the feed...no gene there.  A vaccine could still reduce the number of gas-producing bacteria, but at what cost to digestion?  Feed 'em some activated charcoal, instead....  You can sneak this into some brownies for Fred.  Just tell him you used dark chocolate....  As for your cat, consider a hypoallergenic diet, as many cats have food allergies and/or inflammatory bowel disease.  Dogs too, though panting can also cause excessive gas in dogs.  Lactose (milk sugar) intolerance and high fiber diets (fiber gets fermented) can contribute...so tell Fred to stop panting, lay off dairy products, and stop eating beans.  :)

I just had one of those memory flashes......of when I was a little girl and would go visit Nanny and Papa on the farm.....and go across the road where the milk barn was to help Papa with the evening  milk.....something he did just for a little bit of milk.....I don't remember why or from what cows.....he did a big full milking in the mornings and nanny did the whole cream and butter thing....but in the late afternoon, he just did a bucket or two, with the cats.....anyway, I LOVED the smell of that barn and those cows! Weird, huh?  I remember it being warm hay, warm grass, warm earth, warm cows....I guess there were warm farts and I just didn't realize it.......ugh......

Wouldn't it be easier to feed them the equivalent of Beano?

Uh, Nautikos,
I am willing to pay you for a serum for old men.  Maybe the same version as for your friend Fred.  On his day home he farts the day away, I am sure he is contributing to global warming, let me know, if you ever get your hands on some, I gotta do my part to stop global warming!!

So they can figure out how to inoculate against production of expanding
gases but they can't stop cancer or AIDS... Makes you wonder...

I'm just wondering here, what will happen to all the, how can I say that politely, the... hem... "un-farthed" farths. Surely, the bacteria are still in there making use of the plant matters and the by-product of all that... hem... activity makes gas... So, how?
