Bask in the glory of the new books for me--it'll be a while before I'm "allowed" back again!
Happy shopping, and thanks for reading

Amazon seems to be a weakness for many book lovers!
Thanks for reading

Re: Both Life Expectancy
I used to do a lot of my shopping online (usually for books, of course), because it's super convenient. But someone hacked into my online account and ran up a huge amount on my credit card--after that, online shopping was all but banned in Sira Land.

Re:
Sam, that's a fantastic idea! I might be able to add another trip to my schedule. Imagine, 3 splurges a year--talk about a decadent life!

Re: Some people think libraries are a good idea...
I hit the libraries and used bookstores during the times when I'm "banned" from the bookstore. It is a good way to test drive books, and the used stores are great for finding copies of classics/collectibles--the ones that would cost a small fortune at a place like Chapters.
I have yet to find a place that donates the money to a good charity--I'll have to keep my eyes open, and see if I can find something similar!

Both Life Expectancy
AND Kite Runner are great books! I enjoyed both, like you said very different, but good! I do my book shopping on Amazon Japan, it has got to where they usually have in stock everything I want so it is quick and I always buy enough to warrant free shipping. I am a very good customer indeed!

Some people think libraries are a good idea...
they take a book for a test drive, it's a keeper, then go out and buy it. The library here in Mundane has a resale shop, people donate books and we sell paperbacks for a quarter (5/$1) and hardbacks for 75 cents. The money goes to summer reading and entertainment programs for kids, prizes for contests, etc. But you're right: there's nothing like splurging at the bookstore.

Sira
I don't read all that much fiction, but I recently discovered a 'must read' author: Peter Carey! I read
Theft and
His Illegal Self in quick succession, and shall read more of his stuff. He's an
amazing writer! If you have some money left to spend, get
Theft, you won't be disappointed...
