Perhaps the judge and the parent could be sentenced to
a season's worth of Nanny 911, or SuperNanny, viewed in succession.  Anyone who still has the impulse to punish with hitting could benefit from seeing kids you start out wanting to wallop, respond to some consistant, adult-minded discipline of the non-hitting kind.

Naut ~ this is sad ~ it is very sad, reminds me of the days of Lester Roloff and all that goes with that (http://www.isaccorp.org/vca/lester-roloff.11.17.02.html) --- I just wonder how this all continually goes on ~Elyse

That was a common punishment

back in the 1700's. And personally, I don't see anything wrong with it--she must have done something, to be brought before the courts in the first place. And after she had her butt warmed in front of all those people, I doubt she'll be doing it again!

After all, isn't that what judges are supposed to do--hand down punishments that will act as a deterrent, in the hopes of preventing further crimes...?

What did the darling girl do to be brought before the magistrate?

I'd bet the kid won't do again whatever she did to earn such public humiliation.

So, this is happening in the future, then? I'm not surprised as my first grad-school project in Nacagdoches, TX was the regarding the effect of corporal punishment on high school kids. Though it was illegal in most of the US - Texas flew it's corporal punishment flag proudly.

So another court could now put someone in the stocks
for child abuse...  My mind is wrestling with images of the regular judges on Boston Legal...  Thanks for that, Naut!  Henry Gibson... Shelly Berman...  dear me!
