- Go to IS IT FEAR OF HELL THAT MAKES YOU BELIEVE AS YOU DO?
it is the fear of God that makes me believe the way I do. Just as I fear my own father as a child not the kind of fear that one might think I was abused but the kind of fear that one has when he does not want to disapoint or be disaplined, the kind of fear that a child has when he does not want his father to look down on him or turn his back on him, because he has gone so far astray. you can not force someone to a path which is good and make them walk it. They have to want to walk that path on there own. I have no need to fear hell for if I trully believe in my God I need not fear. My only job when it comes to hell, is to warn you or any one else that the devil will whisper in your ear that there is no hell, but I take it upon myself to tell you that there is. You can bring water to a thirsty man on his death bed from simply dehidration but you can make him drink the water, if in his mind he has convienced himself that he does not need it.

Truth
Not really about the topic, but I want to say this anyway. One of the reasons why I find your blog interesting is that you are obviously concerned about truth and you also seem to care about people. We do not share the same experiences and therefore our views on what is true and what is not may differ somewhat, but I admire anybody who is not just repeating something they learned by rote, but are dealing with reality and truth from the heart and mind in an open and truthful manner. I hope there will come a time in our lives when the value of these inner qualities, I see reflected in your writing, will be more important for the majority of people than the outer appearances that seem to constantly get in the way of sensible communication and that are very useful to people who are more interested in the profit they can generate from conflict than in helping to build a peaceful global society. Although we seem to differ drastically in our approach to truth and religion and may even come in conflict from time to time, I urge you: Keep on thinking free. My religion is about being free from dogma and being open to the ever unfolding reality that to my mind cannot be fully explained by any one set of ideas, i.e. I embrace spirituality and science, experiences that transcend the categories and limitations of pure reason and the useful application of the findings of science and reason. This is sometimes a very lonely position, but I see no other way into our shared future, taking the present realities of peoples various views and experiences into consideration.

Re: The Jewish religion is not big on Hell
I agree with you that human relations should be central to our activities in the real world. I also believe that religion should be about reality and that includes our inner experiences as well as our shared experiences.

The Jewish religion is not big on Hell
It's not the reason we belive in G-d anyway. My two sons tell me that they don't believe in G-d, and I tell them that's fine. I didn't when I was there age, but then I gave birth to them and something changed. However, I said that they may or may not ever come to that realization, and either way, it's OK. This is why I have such a hard time with prosthletizers; your religious and spiritural beliefs should be a very personal thing. What we should be working on in the real world are (wo)man to (wo)man concerns.
